The BWF recognizes that coaches are the key to the future growth and success of the sport. In order to support coach education, the BWF has developed a Coach Development Framework.

This Coach Development Framework has three levels of coach education courses
Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3.

At the top end of these levels is the BWF Certified Coach Education Program.

2008 course

The first week of the inaugural Certified Coach Education Program will be from 3 – 7 November 2008 and will be hosted at the National Sport Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria.  Through this program, the BWF intends to provide an opportunity for coaches to acquire competencies in both badminton and sports science.

There are five modules, a total of 200 hours run in five separate weeks. The content will be delivered by internationally renowned coaches and practitioners in badminton.


Mission

The BWF will provide the opportunity for aspiring active coaches and top international players to obtain the highest international level of BWF coaching certification.

Course Development

The BWF is working in co-operation with the National Sports Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria to set up a comprehensive and credible international, high level coach development program. This program will encompass both academic and practical components in Sport Science, sport specific Exercise Theory, Applied Theory and Hands-on-Practical sessions - in class-room, on-court and off-court.

Standard Version

Coaches working at high performance national level with national and international athletes.

Fast Track for Top Coaches

National Coaches of exceptional international reputation with proven achievement and extraordinary badminton knowledge already working with top international athletes.

Fast Track for Athletes

Top international players with proven achievement.

Approach - Education & Coaching

The key approach to the courses:

  • run as a modular based program;
  • top expertise and top world badminton coaches will present modules;
  • topics are presented in a holistic way, creating an open learning environment;
  • course topics are badminton specific and represent the actual standard of international play with the focus on Make a Champion and their performance competencies;
  • integration of knowledge, skills, attitude and experience of the winning training philosophies and coaching experiences from both Asia and Europe;
  • the program will be guided by the four cornerstones of a Contemporary Coaching Approach which are:
    • athlete centered
    • coach driven
    • evidence based
    • competency based
